How To Apply for A School Place in Kilkenny City Vocational School

If you are interested in applying for a place in Kilkenny City Vocational School for your child, we would first advise that you carefully read all of the information below:

Admissions Policy

Please read the Kilkenny City Vocational School Admission Policy. Our admissions policy outlines how the admission procedure works for our school. It was formulated and ratified by our Board of Management, following consultation with our Parents’ Association, Student Council and Teaching Staff. It is reviewed by the Board of Management on an annual basis.

Application Process for Enrolment to First Year

Mailing List (optional)

• You may wish to have your name included on our mailing list.
• This is not a requirement but names on the mailing list will receive a reminder about our Open Night/ Admissions Process for the following academic year, when your son begins Sixth Class.

Open Night

• Details for our Open Night for prospective students in First Year 2025 will be posted here in due course. The Open Night will consist of an Information Presentation, followed by guided tours of the school campus where you will get the opportunity to view the facilities and informally meet with staff and students. Those on our Mailing List will be sent a reminder about the Open Night prior to the event.
• A link to the Application Form will be made available here in due course. Please note that under current legislation, we can only accept completed Application Forms during the application window – relevant dates will be made available on this page in due course. Please do not try to submit application forms before then as they cannot be accepted.

Annual Admission Notice

• The Annual Admission Notice is published here each year after 1st September.
• The Annual Admission Notice gives all relevant dates for the full application process pertaining to the Sixth Class students for that given year for admission to Kilkenny City Vocational School the following year.

Annual Process

• The relevant Application Form for 2024-2025 will be available for download below (in September/October 2023) when the process begins for enrolment for the 2024-2025 First Year Class Group or by contacting the School Office at that time.
• Completed Application Forms will only be accepted during the appropriate time period, as specified, in the Annual Admission Notice (see above).
• This year, the school will host an Open Night on for prospective students and their parents. Details to follow.
• Names on the Mailing List will be sent a reminder about the Open Night in advance, but all relevant students and parents are welcome.
• Please note that we receipt all applications via email to the email address provided in the Application Form.
• If you do not receive same within a couple of days, the onus is on you to contact the school.
• The school does not take any responsibility for Application Forms not received.

Key Dates for the Application Process for Incoming First Years 2025:

• The school will commence accepting applications for admission on Date To Be Confirmed (Note that applications received before this date will be deemed invalid)
• The school shall cease accepting applications for admission on (closing date) Date To Be Confirmed
• Applicants will be notified of the decision by post which will be sent out in the post on Date To Be Confirmed
• The period within which applicants must confirm acceptance of an offer of admission is by Date To Be Confirmed

Application Process for School Transfer:

If you wish to apply for a place for your son as a school transfer (i.e. if he wishes to transfer from another second-level school) then you must:

• Read the KCVS Admission Policy available below.
• Contact the school office to have a transfer application form posted to you.
• Complete this School Transfer Application Form and submit a hardcopy to the School Office.
• Please include copies of your son’s two most recent school reports with his application and a cover-letter explaining why you are considering a school transfer at this time.
• Please note that we receipt all applications via email to the email address provided in the School Transfer Application Form.
• If you do not receive same within a couple of days, the onus is on you to contact the school.
• The school does not take any responsibility for Application Forms not received.
