Standardised Testing
Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT 4)
- Incoming First Years are tested with CAT 4 to ascertain academic ability.
- Transition Years are tested with CAT 4 in November/December of each academic year.
Literacy
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students are tested in October and again in April of each year with the New Group Reading
Test (NGRT).
- This is a standardised literacy examination that ascertains student progress in relation to the
domains of literacy language acquisition.
Numeracy
- Students are tested in October with the Progress in Maths Test (PIM). This is a standardised numeracy examination that ascertains student progress in relation to numerical abilities.
Attitudinal Testing
- PASS Testing Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Years will be tested in September. First Years will be tested in November.
Diagnostic Testing
- Following analysis of above test scores, students who warrant further investigative support in the areas of
language, literacy and numeracy will be tested diagnostically by the special education department. Such
diagnostic testing includes RACE, WRAT, MALT and YARC.
- Linda McCormack and Niamh O Donovan will co-ordinate all standardised, attitudinal and diagnostic testing.
